Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently asked questions.
Common Medicare questions answered in plain language.
Is Medicare Plan Path affiliated with the government?
No. Medicare Plan Path is not connected with or endorsed by the U.S. government or the federal Medicare program. We are an independent Medicare comparison and education site.
Do you offer every plan available in my area?
No. We do not offer every plan available in your area. Talk to a licensed agent to confirm what is available where you live.
Medicare Advantage vs. Medicare Supplement?
Medicare Advantage replaces Original Medicare and usually includes extras like dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage. Medicare Supplement (Medigap) pays your share of Original Medicare cost and pairs with a separate Part D drug plan.
When can I switch plans?
Most people switch during the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7). Some people qualify for Special Enrollment Periods due to moving, losing other coverage, or other qualifying events.
Do I need a Part D plan if I take no medications?
Probably yes. If you go more than 63 days without creditable drug coverage after you are first eligible, you may be charged a permanent monthly late enrollment penalty when you eventually enroll.
Can I keep my doctor on Medicare Advantage?
Only if your doctor is in the plan's network. Always confirm with your doctor's office before enrolling.
Does Medicare cover overseas care?
In most cases, no. Original Medicare generally does not cover care outside the U.S. Some Medigap plans add limited foreign travel emergency coverage.
